DR. LEWIS: Well, the concept of spa dentistry probably started about six or seven years ago. And I'm kind of considered one of the pioneers in that field. I've been asked to lecture on it and speak at different conventions about it. And what it is basically is the idea of just making an atmosphere for people to feel really relaxed and at ease when they come to the dentist. Nobody enjoys coming to the dentist, at least my generation, they don't have good thoughts about it. And so I wanted a way to put people at ease, make it kind of more of a homey atmosphere, and offer them some things that would really relax them. One of the main things we have is a massage therapist who's here that gives hand and foot massages to all of the patients who want them during treatment. And it's amazing how the patients respond to that and how awesome they think that is and how good it makes them feel.

JENNIFER: I am the massage therapist at Texas Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Guy Lewis and Associates. I have the opportunity to provide our patients with either a hand or a foot massage while they're in the chair getting their procedures done. I love what I do. I love that I can offer an aspect of relaxation and lower anxiety levels while people are getting work done. I have a room here also that I do full-body massages.

DR. LEWIS: We have the hot paraffin wax that ladies can put their hands in and they love that. It makes their hands feel really good. We have back massagers and warmers in the chair. We have warm blankets, we have neck pillows. We TVs that are in the ceiling so that when you're laying back in the chair, you can look up and watch TV or a movie, we can put in a DVD. So we do everything we can, you know, scented candles, just all sorts of things that just make your visit a lot more comfortable, relaxing, and try to reduce the stress and make it like a spa atmosphere so you feel like it can be a good time here.
