DR. D'ALFONSO: Invisalign is a system for moving teeth orthodontically without using brackets or wires. There's a lot of advantages to Invisalign. Of course, the biggest advantage is it's invisible. You barely notice it. The second advantage is it's a lot more hygienic. You can take the retainers out, you can brush and floss. The other advantage is there might be certain situations where you don't want to have the retainers in or know—have anyone know that you're even doing orthodontics. You could just leave them out for a day. And the neat thing about Invisalign I think is you can see exactly how the teeth are going to end up on the computer before you ever accept treatment. That way you know where you're heading and it's—it takes a lot of the guesswork out. You wear each aligner for two weeks. You switch out. The teeth—the movement's made and you put another one in. As far as discomfort is concerned, typically with a new tray, you'll have maybe an hour or two of some discomfort because there's some pressure being put on the teeth, very similar to if you went to an orthodontist and they tightened your wire up. It's great for adults who just have some crowding on lower front teeth, a couple of front teeth that are a little crooked or spaced. They don't want to have metal braces. It's excellent treatment that can be done usually within 6 to 12 months.
